2003 peter pan movie cast
Hook says, “Peter Pan prepare to die,” and Peter with a smile says one of my favorite lines in the whole movie, “To die would be an awfully big adventure.” Another one of my favorite lines comes as the narrator describes what Hook’s poison is made of: mallace, jealousy, and disappointment and is instantly fatal. He does get caught by Hook, and an intense scene occurs where Peter looks like he could die. In this scene, when Pan comes to rescue the boys and Tiger Lily, he teases and impersonates Hook, “You are a cod fish.” His lines, confidence, and playfulness while fighting really add to his character. Then later, once captured by Hook and taken to the Black Castle, John says, “We are English gentlemen, we do not beg,” and right after begs for his life before getting chained up by Smee. They get pulled up into a tree by their ankles, “How humiliating,” John says as their bear butts are out and their nightgowns cover the faces. When they run away, they get caught in Tiger Lily’s trap. When John and Michael get separated from Wendy, they come across the crocodile that bit off Hook’s hand.
The script was also rather witty and allowed for comedic breaks in the film. As a kid I don’t think I picked up on as many as I do now when I watch the film. There are some brilliant lines in the script for this movie. Hook and Smee have their traditional costuming from the original movie I think this is a rather important detail and helps the film feel very Peter Pan like. In the film the pirates are scary, but also rather whimsical looking in their costuming. Captain Hook and the pirates are alluded to in the first scene of the film as Wendy tells their story and she and the boys pretend to be them. They always have some funny commentary or reaction to add to a scene and help lighten some of the darker scenes in the film. The lost boys add a really funny and playful quality to the film. Wendy and Peter’s love interest for one another can also be seen early on in the film and progress beautifully throughout. When Peter is first introduced and interacts with Wendy, he seems like he doesn’t need help from anybody and is self sufficient, but he is still a child in the way he brags and spits off sarcastic and funny remarks. The way they interact and play pretend with one another at the start of the film, reminds me a lot of how my sisters and I used to play. The three children have magnificent chemistry in the film. This brings attention to Peter as the main character, and makes him sound childish compared to the proper British accents of the other characters.
Peter Pan is the only actor in the film with an American accent. In this film Wendy, John, and Michael, their parents and aunt are British. This movie has an excellent cast, script, camera shots, and coloration editing. Today I want to dive deeper into my all time favorite version, the 2003 live action remake. I loved all of the Peter Pan films growing up: Disney’s animated Peter Pan, the 1960 Peter Pan with Mary Martin, Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp, Hook with Robin Williams, and the 2003 Peter Pan live action. Neverland is a magical place, and the story of Peter Pan has been told over and over again.
